Before starting work on a portrait I have a consultation with the client to agree the preferred direction.

I can paint directly from life, or I can work from sketches and photographs from one or more sittings. Painting from life normally takes a number of two hour sessions.

The cost of a portrait is agreed before work begins; an advance of 30% is required. The length of time from the initial commission to the delivery of the completed painting is approximately two or three months. Glazing is carried out after several months ( when the paint is thoroughly dry ) and is included in the price.
